About the Legacy Trust Award Collection

The Legacy Trust Award Collection debuted in 2010, the brainchild of William Walker, the President and CEO of Legacy Trust. Like others in the community, Bill was swept away by the magic of ArtPrize, an international art competition in Grand Rapids decided solely on a public vote, and wanted to find a way to become part of the dialogue.

As the father of a daughter with special needs, Bill decided to launch LTAC, a mini-art competition aimed to remove barriers for participation for adult artists with disabilities in ArtPrize.

Each year, Legacy Trust and sponsors in the business, arts and disability communities ask Michigan artists with disabilities to submit their best paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, collages and other works of art to a preliminary art competition. Three winners, chosen by popular vote and by a panel of celebrity judges, receive a cash prize of $500 and sponsorship in ArtPrize.

This year, in addition to sponsoring three artists in ArtPrize, the committee has established the Lillian Perry Walker award to honor the young woman whose spirit was the spark that brought LTAC to life.
