The West Michigan community has lost one of its greatest business leaders and philanthropists in the passing of Fred Meijer.
Fred’s entrepreneurial spirit and visionary leadership created a new category of retail and allowed the store that bears his family name to expand exponentially throughout the Midwest. He showed his gratitude to the community that made him so successful in countless ways, supporting dozens and dozens of projects to benefit the arts, education, health care and the environment. The world-class Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has been one of his greatest gifts to our community, providing a graceful, beautiful venue to showcase Fred’s passion for sculpture that draws hundreds of thousands of guests from around the world each year. He and his wife, Lena, have been role models for marriage, family, tradition and generosity. They epitomize all that is good about our community.
We join West Michigan in honoring the life and legacy of Fred Meijer – business visionary, philanthropist and great friend of Legacy Trust.
