Legacy Trust Welcomes Mike VanGessel to Board of Directors
Grand Rapids, Michigan, September 9, 2009 – Legacy Trust recently welcomed Mike VanGessel to its board of directors.
VanGessel, who is a founding partner, president and CEO of Rockford Construction Co., will serve on the nine-member board of Legacy Trust, an independent, locally owned trust bank that specializes in wealth management. His appointment has been approved by Michigan’s Office of Financial and Insurance Services.
VanGessel brings nearly three decades of business experience to his new role with Legacy Trust. He began his career as a carpenter and project manager for Rockford, helping it grow from a two-person firm to a 200+ person firm with more than $350 million in annual revenues. Major projects have included the new J.W. Marriott in Grand Rapids, Williams Arena Station and many leading colleges and universities in West Michigan, as well as projects for Meijer, Wolverine World Wide, Saint Mary’s Health Care and other area businesses.

Engaged and active in the community, VanGessel has a lengthy list of professional and volunteer activities. Among others, he currently serves as a trustee for the Davenport University Foundation. He is on the board of the Calvin College Business Alliance, Keystone Community Church, Catholic Secondary Schools Council and Christian Business Mens’ Committee. He is a member of Young Presidents Organization, Greater Grand Rapids Home Builders Association, Economics Club of Grand Rapids and a volunteer at Guiding Light Mission.
VanGessel holds a bachelor of science degree in construction management from Michigan State University. He is a native and current resident of Grand Rapids, where he lives with his wife, Gayle, and three children.
